Engineering across the life of a road

Five services delivered by the same senior team, so the design, the operation and the systems are planned together.

Traffic engineering, operations & planning

We diagnose congestion, compare alternatives and optimise how existing and planned networks perform. Microsimulation models real driver behaviour rather than static averages, so the options you compare reflect what will happen on the street.

  • Traffic impact studies for new developments
  • Signal timing and coordination
  • Capacity and level-of-service analysis
  • Road safety audits
  • Junction control reviews, including roundabout-to-signal conversions
  • Corridor and network planning
Modelling tools
VISSIM, Aimsun, Synchro, Paramics

Roadway & geometric design

We design the physical road: urban streetscapes that put pedestrian safety and multimodal access first, and high-capacity freeways and interchanges designed for flow and safety. Designs combine standards with construction knowledge, so they are buildable and cost-effective.

  • Urban streets and streetscape renewal
  • Freeways, interchanges and corridor reconstruction
  • Junction geometry and access management
  • Detailed plans, specifications and 3D models
Standards
AASHTO, TAC and local standards

Pavement design & management

We design pavements for their full life. Structural analysis accounts for soil conditions, traffic loading and climate, and the maintenance strategy is set at design stage rather than after the first failure.

  • Structural pavement design
  • Material selection, including recycled aggregates and permeable designs
  • Condition assessment and maintenance strategy
Methods
AASHTO, MEPDG and regional methods

ITS & smart mobility

We plan and design the systems that make a network adaptive and informed: real-time data, sensors and communications that let operators manage traffic before it breaks down and keep travellers informed. Projects are prepared for connected and automated vehicles, so they stay useful as the fleet changes.

  • ITS planning and design
  • Connected and automated vehicle (CAV) readiness strategies
  • Data analytics platforms and real-time sensing
  • Traveller information

Parking & kerbside planning

We plan parking as part of the transport network: how much is needed, where it sits, how drivers find it, and how it is laid out, signed and marked. Where you also need the infrastructure supplied and installed, our group company Signalix can deliver it.

  • Parking demand and supply studies
  • Layout and circulation for surface and multi-storey facilities
  • Signage, wayfinding and marking design
  • Kerbside management
